Ab Workout

During the fall, I ran cross country with my school team.  Our coach has an interesting set of ab workouts that I felt like sharing.  You can do however many you feel like, we do 10 of each exercise at the start of the season.  It’s a better workout if there are no pauses between exercises.

1st: Regular crunches, knees up, legs not crossed. 10 of these.
2nd: Bicycle crunches (elbow to opposite knee while legs “pedal”)  10 elbow to knee for each knee.

3rd: Lying on your back with your arms and legs spread out, take your right hand and touch your left toe.  Do the same with the left hand.  10 to each side, alternating.

4th: Still lying on your back in a star shape, keeping your shoulders pressed against the ground,  swing your right leg and touch your left hand.  Repeat with the left leg.  10 to each side, alternating.

5th: Lying on your back, legs together, arms above your head, sit up and touch your toes with your legs still straight.  10 of these.

6th: Lying on your back, legs straight up in the air, swing your feet from one side to another without touching the ground.  It should look like your feet are windshield washers.  After 10 to each side, put your feet back in the middle and do 10 little ones to each side, moving your feet about one foot to the right or left.  10 of those to each side.

7th: V-Ups.  Kind of hard to explain, so for those of you who don’t know what a v-up is, here is a link that has a video in it. http://www.workoutz.com/exercise/v_ups 10 of these.

There might be one more I’m forgetting, but these are the exercises we use to improve our core muscles.
